Dramaturgical landscape observations by Valerie Wehrens
The text collection WORDSCAPES by dramaturg Valerie Wehrens was created as an independent satellite to her collaboration on the project series LandScaping. Taking the self-reflection on her role as a dramaturg as a starting point, in WORDSCAPES she explores which textual ecosystems can be roamed while playing with forms of landscape writing.
Inspired by how Mendonça develops artistic principles from intense landscape encounters for performances and choreographic installations, she now carries this effort into writing. To do so, she borrows questions that Mendonça works through choreographically and, in these Dramaturgical Landscape Observations, runs off with them in a different direction.
It is an attempt to encounter different figures of thought living side by side and from each other in a collection of loosely connected texts about landscape and dramaturgical self-reflection.
In the writing, she works through her self-questioning: From where does the supposed inside/outside view of a dramaturg set out? How does one contribute to the material of others in the process? She explores these questions in a textual aesthetic and arrangement that, like landscape, does not unfold linearly. Objects & haptics constantly emerge and alternate. Numerous entities live side by side, creating an ecosystem.

A few technical notes before reading:
WORDSCAPES is written mostly in German, though some texts are in English.
It can be read either directly in the browser or after the download with a PDF reader (e.g. from Adobe).
To guarantee an optimal display in Adobe Acrobat Reader, it is important to set "Enable scrolling" in the page display, or to switch to "Fit to window width and enable scrolling" in the toolbar via the display icon.

Dramaturgische Landschaftsbtrachtungen von Valerie Wehrens
Die Textsammlung WORDSCAPES der Dramaturgin Valerie Wehrens entstand als eigenständiger Satellit zur ihrer Kollaboration an der Projektserie LandScaping. Die Selbstreflexion über ihre Rolle als Dramaturgin zum Ausgangspunkt nehmend, beschäftigt sie sich in WORDSCAPES damit, welche textlichen Ökosysteme sich in einem Versuch landschaftlichen Schreibens durchwandern lassen.
Inspiriert davon, wie Mendonça in Performances und choreografischen Installationen künstlerische Prinzipien aus intensiven Landschaftsbegegnungen entwickelt, trägt sie diese Bemühung nun ins Schreiben. Dafür leiht sie sich in diesen Dramaturgischen Landschaftsbetrachtungen Fragen aus, die Mendonça choreografisch bearbeitet und rennt mit ihnen in eine andere Richtung los.
Es ist der Versuch, in einer Sammlung von lose verbundenen Texten über Landschaft und dramaturgische Selbstreflexion verschiedenen, neben- und voneinander lebenden Denkfiguren zu begegnen.
Im Schreiben arbeitet sie sich an ihrer Selbstbefragung ab: Von wo macht sich der vermeintlicher Innen-/ Außen-Blick als Dramaturgin auf? Wie trägt man dabei zum Material von anderen bei? Diese Fragen ergründet sie in einer Textästhetik und -anordnung, die sich - wie Landschaft - nicht linear entfaltet. Stets treten andere Objekte & Haptiken hervor und wechseln sich ab. Zahlreiche Entitäten leben nebeneinander und ergeben ein Ökosystem.
