Underboundaries

“Which choreographic strategies can be born in times of financial crisis?” and “ Which are the relations between performing body, choreography and economic context ?” Underboundaries is a choreographic research project created from these emergent problems. Considering the relations between body and environment, the goal of this research is to develop strategies, in how to work with these questions as choreographic imputs.

This research had two phases: the first an exchange with BodyWeather practioners and a research labor with the KASA Kollektiv (Carla Jordão, Katharina Geyer and Bianca Mendonça).

Underboundaries Toolbox

This toolbox is the organisation of exercises that I have been practicing during the period I was developing the research Underboundaries. Most of these exercises was adapted and deeply influenced by other artists and practioners that I had contact with during the last years.

During this research, I revisited these references and started to create my own way of working, which dialogues with my artistic and personal interesting. These tools are not rules! They are just doors to help me and maybe help you to create your own work.

Underboundaries - a movement mapping workshop

In this workshop, I would like to share the material I have been developing with the members of KASA Kollektiv. We are going to work on the idea of mapping and its dialogue with choreographic scores. In each workshop day, we are going to focus in the following topics and questions:

-    Training/warm-up: how to create a warm-up which focus is on the activation of the energy of the body and its creative potential ?

-    Improvisation: how to use images as starting point for movement improvisation ?

-    Composition/Mapping: the practice of mapping as a tool for choreographic composition. It will be a very nice opportunity of sharing knowledge, experiences and work together.

The strategies used in this workshop are also influenced by the recent exchange achieved with the De Quincey Company from Sydney, which work is based on the BodyWeather and Butoh practice.
