Postapocalyptic Encounters
In Western imagination, the apocalypse is often represented as a spectacle: a final war, a meteor strike, an alien invasion, an environmental catastrophe. But what if the apocalypse isn’t a future scenario? And what does it mean to say “the end of the world as we know it?” For many communities across the globe, ends of their worlds have already happened, and surviving postapocalyptic conditions have been their reality for generations. Postapocalyptic Encounters (PAE) is a transdisciplinary platform proposing encounters between voices and knowledge systems that have been marginalized through colonial processes. It intends to open spaces where artists, academics and activists generate knowledge collectively by weaving discursive and embodied practices. More information www.postapocalypticencounters.com
The MIGRANTENNALE runs from August 21st to 24th. It will showcase works by artists from North Rhine-Westphalia who deal with migration and the Global South.
A central component is the presentation of works created during a three-week residency program at the Saalbau Witten. Visitors can expect a diverse program with artistic perspectives, space for exchange, and insights into migration as aesthetics, global connections, and South-South alliances.
